Nascar Odds: Aaron’s 499 Betting Preview

Harvick is the 6-1 favorite at SBG Global.comNASCAR heads to Talladega on Sunday for the Aaron’s 499 with Kevin Harvick looking to defend his title.  Harvick is the 6-1 favorite at SBG Global.com but in a restrictor plate race anyone can win.  Let’s take a look at some of the contenders and a few of the longshots.

Kevin Harvick is the defending champion and he has had success at restrictor plate tracks but at 6-1 he does not have much value.  Anyone can win at Talladega and it just happened to be that Harvick was on top when they reached the finish line last year.  Two years ago it was Brad Keselowski winning this race while Kyle Busch won in 2008. Jeff Gordon won this race in 2004, 2005 and in 2007 and he is the only four-time winner of this race. Normally Gordon would be a great choice at Talladega but he has finished in the top 10 just once in his last six starts at the track.

The Chevy’s have dominated this race winning 11 of the last 12 with Toyota’s win by Kyle Busch in 2008 the only win for another manufacturer.  Starting up front really helps at Talladega as 32 of the 83 all-time races have been won by a car starting either first or second.  The pole sitter has won 13 times.  While it helps to start first or second, anything can happen in restrictor plate races and 23 times the winner has come from outside a top 10 starting spot.

Four drivers have odds of less than 10-1 this week.  Harvick is the favorite at 6-1 and he is followed by Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch at 9-1 and Kurt Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. at 10-1.  There are six drivers listed with odds of 13-1 at SBG Global.com. They are Carl Edwards, Jamie McMurray, Clint Bowyer, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon.

If you are looking for a couple of longshots; and Talladega is a great track for longshots, then Paul Menard is worth a look. Menard is off to a strong start this season and he currently sits at 11th in the point’s standings. He is listed with odds of 37.5-1 at SBG. Also at 37.5-1 is Brad Keselowski and we already know that he can win this race since he won it in 2009.
