2012 Del Mar Horse Betting Preview

delmar
The feature race Thursday at Del Mar is a $73,000 “non-winners of two races” allowance horse betting event going five furlongs over the turf. There are only five runners entered, but the race may not be as bad a betting event as such a short field would suggest. Being part of the Late Pick 4, the feature may lead some horse betting handicappers in search of a “single,” which would allow them to spread in other races.

Here is an in-depth look at the horse betting field:

1-SIZZLING GOLD - she’s won three of her last four races sprinting over the turf, losing the other by just a horse betting neck – to today’s rival SEAN S. She has been contesting the pace from mid to outside posts during her streak, but this time she gets the rail and may have no choice but to gun early.

2-BIG HONEY BEE – she has been quite consistent throughout her horse betting career but this will be her 17th start and her first over turf. She’s also cutting-back to her shortest distance in quite some time, which likely leaves her trying to run down the speed in the stretch. Not convinced.

3-MAGIC SCHOOL – one of two entered here from the barn of Barry Abrams. This horse betting gal has finished fifth in her last two races, doing so against today’s rivals SIZZLING GOLD and SEAN S. Perhaps because of that she finds herself with a claiming tag around her neck for the first time. At first glance she’s tough to like, but note her best horse betting efforts have come over this course and distance.

4-SEAN S – unbeaten in four starts since switching over to the barn of Joshua Litt, but there is some concern that she needed a four-month layoff during that win streak. Got up in the final jump to win her comeback, winning a three-horse photo that included SIZZLING GOLD. Despite the hot streak her horse betting connections are putting her back on sale today. For a filly that has “just gotten up” at six and six-and-one-half furlongs recently, how does she handle the five-furlong trip – the shortest of her horse betting career?

5-LINDZ WINZ – back in southern California and the barn of Barry Abrams after a failed invasion of the Big Apple. This filly ran very well at Santa Anita last spring and winter, winning a $100,000 stake over the main track – and she has scored both wins, and never missed the board, with today’s rider in the saddle. The outside post is the perfect spot for this need-the-lead filly, and she is certainly fast enough to make the front in this horse betting spot, especially if SIZZLING GOLD were to break a step slow from the inside slot. No doubt she needs a big effort to beat the top duo, but she offers a much better price and gets the horse betting nod.
