Horseracing Odds on Del Mar

delmarHorse Betting Online: For the week field size averaged 8.19 starters, and horse betting favorites won 36% of all races. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t value to be found, as seven winners scored at odds of 10/1 or higher – including a 46/1 bomber on August 17.

This week’s “Del Mar Horse Betting Journal” covers racing from August 17-21.

Horse Track Profile:

Note – a wire-to-wire winner is identified as any winner who was on the lead, or within 0.50 lengths of the lead, at every call.

August 17 – Fast; Firm. Sprints (2) – one wire-to-wire horse betting winner; the other winner was 1.5 lengths back at the second call. Routes (3) – one wire-to-wire winner; two other winners were 3.5 and 9.5 lengths back at the second call. Turf Sprints (1) – rail at zero feet; the winner was 1.5 lengths back at the second horse betting call. Turf Routes (2) – rail at zero feet; one wire-to-wire winner; the other winner was 9.5 lengths back at the second call. Note – no winners beyond post 4 on the main track; no winners beyond post 5 on turf.

August 18 – Fast; Firm. Sprints (4) – one wire-to-wire winner; three other horse betting winners were between 1.0-8.5 lengths back at the second call. Routes (1) – the winner was 2.5 lengths back at the second horse betting call. Turf Sprints (1) – rail at zero feet; the winner was 3.75 lengths back at the second call. Turf Routes (2) – rail at zero feet; horse betting winners were 2.5 and 7.5 lengths back at the second call.

August 19 – Fast; Firm. Sprints (3) – one wire-to-wire winner; two other winners were 4.0 lengths back at the second call. Routes (1) – the winner went wire-to-wire. Turf Sprints (1) – rail at 7 feet; the winner was 4.5 lengths back at the second horse betting call. Turf Routes (2) – rail at 7 feet; one wire-to-wire winner; the other winner was 6.0 lengths back at the second call.

August 20 – Fast; Firm. Sprints (7) – two wire-to-wire winners; five other horse betting winners were between 1.5-4.5 lengths back at the second call. Routes (1) – the winner was 4.5 lengths back at the second call. Turf Routes (2) – rail at 7 feet; winners were 1.0 and 2.0 lengths back at the second call. Note – only one horse betting winner beyond post 5 on the main track (a betting favorite).

August 21 – Fast; Firm. Sprints (6) – three wire-to-wire horse betting winners; three other winners were between 0.50-5.0 lengths back at the second call. Turf Routes (3) – rail at 7 feet; one wire-to-wire winner; two other winners were 2.0 lengths back at the second call. Note – only one winner on the main track beyond post 5; all three turf horse betting winners came from posts 1-2.

Horase Profile:

32 different horse betting trainers sent out winners last week. Of those, five sent out multiple winners.

Mike Mitchell sent out four winners, two in main-track sprints and two in horse betting turf routes. Mitchell won at all levels from a $16,000 claimer to a Grade III stake. Joe Talamo rode three of these winners.

John Sadler also sent out four winners, all coming in sprints on the main track. Three of his winners were two-year-old first-time starters ridden by Joel Rosario.

Mike Puype was close behind with three horse betting winners. All three of his winners were betting favorites in turf routes. Three of them were ridden by Garrett Gomez.

Jorge Gutierrez and Peter Miller sent out two horse betting winners apiece. Both of Gutierrez’s winners came with older fillies or mares in turf routes (12/1 and 13/1), while both of Miller’s winners came with claimers in sprints on the main track.
