MLB Baseball fans get a glimpse of the future in Strasberg debut

It’s are in this day and age of the 24-7 news cycle, online media and the public’s need for instant information that anything in sports betting lives up to the hype but Washington National rookie sensation Stephen Strasburg’s debut this week just might have been one of the few times in baseball betting odds action that the hype failed to live up to the on-field action.

Anyone that knows anything about MLB baseball odds has certainly heard something of Strasburg before his sensational baseball betting odds debut on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  He was not only best player in college baseball betting last year but he was also the #1 pick overall in last year’s.  However, more than that he became the highest paid draft prospect in MLB betting history with over $15 million in guaranteed money.

After one start in the big leagues, it looks like money well spent.

Baseball betting odds fans have been following Strasberg’s progress in the minors all season long.  The numbers have been staggering but fans were mindful not to anoint him the next Roger Clemens just yet as he’d been fanning double A hitters, not MLB odds competition.  But in MLB betting debut Strasberg proved that he can dominate on any level of baseball betting.

In his first MLB start Strasberg led his team to 5-2 victory.  But it’s not the win so much as the individual stats that made his big league debut so memorable.  He allowed just 4 hits, 2 runs and fanned an amazing 14 Pirates batters.  Not bad for a days work.

Strasburg’s performance was obviously impressive and was one of the best pitching debuts in MLB baseball betting history.  His 14 Ks set a franchise record and was the most by any pitcher in his MLB debut since 1971.  Strasberg did make one mistake though when he left a 90 mph changeup that hung a little too much and ended up in the front row of the outfield bleachers for a 2-run HR.

But aside from that Strasburg was nearly perfect.  To really appreciate what this kid did it helps to dig a bit deeper into the numbers as well.  Consider that he needed just 94 pitches to get through 7 innings of work -65 of them strikes.  Also, consider that only three players in MLB betting history have ever struck out 14 batters in 7 innings or less.  And his fastball was ridiculous, approaching 102 on the radar.  He also got stronger as the game wore on, finishing the baseball betting contest with 7 straight Ks.

You could go on and on about Strasberg but in the one MLB betting game that he’s pitched so far he was even better than the hype made him out to be.
