Bet on Football: NFL Week 2 Power Rankings

Power rankings are entertaining for fans and useful for people who bet on football, but they are not an exact science. For week 2, though, there is something that all pundits seem to agree on, and it’s that the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos statuses as number 1 and number 2 have not changed since the Super Bowl in February. All NFL.com, ESPN.com, CBSSports.com and FoxSports.com remarked that Seattle picked up right where they left off and have the makings of a team that can not only laugh off the Super Bowl hangover -which they did- but make another successful championship run.

That one is kind of a no-brainer, though. Things start to unravel from there. For example, Pat Kirwan over at CBS feels that putting Arizona in the 10th spot makes a good argument that together with the Seahawks and the 49ers -also in the top 10-, the Cardinals make the NFC West the league’s toughest division. The NFL website not only agrees but does Kirwan one better and places the Cards in the 8th spot in their ranking. Fox and ESPN aren’t so sure, though, and relegate Arizona to 12th and 14th, respectively. Nonetheless, all had complimentary words for the likes of Carson Palmer and John Brown.

If people who bet on NFL were looking for a consensus, the San Francisco 49ers would be the strongest candidate for third place overall. Only CBS has them lower than that at 4th behind the Cincinnati Bengals. Curiously, in all other three rankings, the Bengals are demoted to either the 4th of 5th position, seemingly indicating that the experts have more faint in the Philadelphia Eagles. Another interesting situation concerns the New England Patriots. For the first time in the Tom Brady era, they are last in the AFC East, and power rankings reflect that by placing them as high as 7th and as low as 12th.
