NFL Preseason Betting Odds: Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans

Houston Texans play host to the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday nightThe Houston Texans play host to the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night in what should be a very entertaining NFL preseason betting game.  The starters for both teams are expected to see a lot of playing time and that means points should be plentiful.  The Cowboys really want to see their first string offense do well this week so expect to see quarterback Tony Romo throw at least a couple of touchdown passes.  The Texans have a high-powered offense of their own led by quarterback Matt Schaub who has the best passer rating of any quarterback in the preseason.

Houston is a 3-point favorite with a total of 40.5 at SBG Sportsbook.

The Texans are expected to play their starters for at least three quarters on Saturday night while the Cowboys are expected to go with theirs at least for a half.  Houston head coach Gary Kubiak said that he wants his team to get a good test and the Cowboys will definitely provide that. The Texans have lost their first two preseason games so they really are putting the focus on winning this one.  It is also a chance for Houston to get some national attention as the game is on CBS.

Dallas has really not looked very good on offense so far in the preseason.  Romo has been inconsistent and everyone has been out of synch.  Romo could have more success this week against a poor Houston defense that gave up 38 points last week to the Saints. The Cowboys are 2-1 in the preseason but it is not because of their offense.  They have scored a total of 41 points in their three games so they are averaging less than two touchdowns per game in the NFL betting preseason.   The first string offense has scored just one touchdown in the three games.

Dallas and Houston have met five times in the preseason with the Cowboys holding a 3-2 series lead. They last met in the preseason two years ago and the Cowboys came away with a 23-22 win at home. There should be some points scored on Saturday night but it is worth noting that these two teams play in Week 3 in the regular season so the game plans could be pretty vanilla as neither team will want to show anything fancy.
