NFL Preseason Betting Odds Chargers at Saints Week 3 Preview

When the San Diego Chargers travel to New Orleans to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Saints in an NFL betting lines matchup the world should get ready for one of the craziest scoring bonanzas you’re going to see this preseason.

Led by former Chargers’ QB and prolific stat monster, Drew Brees, the Saints offense is the best in the league heading into this season and they have the rings to prove it.  With Brees running as efficient offense as this league has ever seen it seems as though the scoring opportunities are endless for this offense.

The Chargers are also similarly talented and could fairly be called the Saints of the West.  Brees’ replacement, Phil Rivers, has been terrific and is the engine of this team.  When this unit is running on all cylinders it’s as good as there is in the AFC.  Unfortunately this team will be missing a few pieces in Friday’s betting NFL preseason matchup.

All Pro WR Vince is holding out which severally limits Rivers’ options in the passing game coming off a 4,000 passing yard season.  Also, the team will be playing without an experienced RB in the backfield after the departure of former leading rusher LaDanian Tomlinson.  The bulk of carries will fall to rookie Ryan Matthews.  And as if that weren’t enough the team’s starting left tackle Marcus McNeil is holding out and backup tackle Tra Thomas has recently retired.

This is not a good omen for the Chargers and it will be interesting to see how this offense performs without these key pieces.

The Saints on the other hand seem to be the well oiled machine they were last season, though it’s got a few weaknesses of its own.  On offense Brees leads the same talented crew as last season.  However, on defense this unit, which was shaky last season, has had a few key departures in the offseason and as any Super Bowl champ knows, it’s going to be an uphill battle to get back to the title game.

Kickoff for this Saturday matchup is set for 8:05 Eastern Time and sbg global sportsbook opened with the Saints as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 42.5.
Expect a high scoring affair and look for the Chargers to come out and make a statement and beat the Saints in the Super Dome.
