Teams from America in 2010 World Cup Odds

In the weeks and months leading up to the 2010 World Cup action the traditional European soccer powerhouses dominated the headlines and the soccer betting lines.  Spain came into the tournament as the lofty favorite after winning the Euro Cup betting two years ago.  Mighty England was also hailed as rightful contender and for the first time in half a century soccer betting fans had reason to think that the World Cup betting title might come back to their island.

Through two weeks of World Cup betting action the European teams are still making headlines but for all the wrong reasons.  The European teams have been a flop and made World Cup odds makers look foolish.

However, half a world away, it’s been the teams from the Americas that have been making a big splash with soccer betting fans dominating the World Cup betting action.  The teams from the New World have been practically perfect and will fill up almost half of the slots in the knockout stage of the World Cup odds competition.

Of the eight teams from North, South and Central America that qualified for the 2010 World Cup betting action in South America seven* are all but guaranteed to be among the final 16 teams remaining in the knockout stage of the soccer betting (at press time Chile, Brazil and Honduras had yet to play their final game in H).

Only the tiny Central American team of Honduras will likely be left behind when the American teams take the round of 16 by storm.  Of the 8 American teams in the World Cup betting action this year Uruguay, Argentina, the US, Paraguay have already won their groups with the soccer odds favoring both Brazil and Chile to win their groups as well.  Mexico didn’t win its group but it came in second behind Uruguay and will also advance to the round of 16.

But beyond simply qualifying for the knockout stage of the World Cup betting action the top teams in the World Cup odds are teams from the Americas.  Brazil favored above all other countries to win the Cup at 4/1 odds and Argentina is only slightly behind at 4.5/1 odds.
